Working Amidst Interruptions

July 23, 2009 | Uncategorized

One step forward, one step back. That’s how the writing seems to be going lately.

Yesterday, I got  a ton of stuff done. Chapter 17’s first scene finished and the second scene started. I managed to get one crit done, and half way through a second. I might have finished that crit too, but I spent the evening balancing books. Yeah, I know I said I was unloading that, but a new agreement has been made. I just go through at the end of the month and make sure everything is balanced and put together the final reports. It only take me about two evenings to wrap up a month. Anyway, over all a very productive day yesterday.

Today is an entirely different story. Evey time I start to write, I’m interrupted. Oddly, the phone has not stopped ringing. In fact, when I look at the amount of time I’ve spent on the phone today, it’s got to be close to two hours. That’s just depressing. Then there’s the usual day-to-day stuff. Oh, and HellHound has the beginnings of another hot-spot on his tail. Fortunately, I think I’ve caught in time to keep it from getting worse and resulting in another big vet bill.

On a happier note, the new appliances arrived this week. Woohoo!! It’s a little sad how excited I am about a new dishwasher and fridge.

Here’s hoping my afternoon is more productive than my morning.

Mood: Frustrated.

A Change of Scene

July 15, 2009 | Uncategorized

I haven’t been able to get a whole done today. My concentration is not good. I seem to working on a bunch of stuff at once, but not really getting anything finished. Also, there have been a number of distractions since I’ve started. With the hopes that a change of scenery might help, I’ve packed everything up and started working outside. So far, so good.  Although, it’s clouding over rather quickly. I hope it doesn’t rain.

Got through chapter 16…finally. Just a few more tweaks and then I’m posting it with my crit group.  The WIP continues to move well. I’ve been hitting my word count goal everyday. So yay! I must admit, getting any writing done lately is quite a challenge. However, my board game skills have never been so good.

We found a new floor for the kitchen. Actually, I like the new floor more and it was about half the price of the first one we saw. Also ordered a new fridge and dishwasher, but we won’t get them until next week. I can not express how ridiculously excited I am at the prospect of new appliances.

Mood: Distracted

Banging My Head Against the Wall

July 10, 2009 | Uncategorized

I believe I mentioned in my previous post that I was struggling with Blood and Bone, stuck on a particular chapter. Well, yesterday I finally managed get something down that I didn’t hate. In fact, I was quite pleased with the end result. Still not quite finished the chapter, but the bones were there to keep me going forward. I did a little happy dance and proceeded to go make lunch.

What I didn’t realize was that while HellHound had been sleeping under my desk, he must have disconected the power supply from the wall. I’m sure you see where this is going. By the time I returned to my desk, the battery on laptop had been used up and my computer shut down.  And no, I had not saved my work. Stupid, I know.

Today, I’m back at it, and (I’m almost afraid to say anything for fear of jinxing myself) I’m almost finished the chapter. Woohoo!! Only ten more to go. Hopefully they won’t be as painful as this one. Wish me luck.

Mood: Better now.

Summer Writing

July 8, 2009 | Uncategorized

As you may have guessed from the sudden lack of posts on my blog, school has finished. Actually, it finished more than a week ago, and I am now wrapped up in the constant struggle to maintain some semblance of a writing schedule. The weather has been lousy for the most part too. I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Rainy, cold days mean DS is playing inside so I can work in my office longer, but it also means he’s borred and looking for entertainment. Today, we played The Game of Life and Clue…twice.

As for writing, I’m adding a new scene to Blood and Bone that’s taking me forever to write. I’d be wondering if I was suffering from writer’s block if I wasn’t having much better luck on the WIP. I will push on. I’m determined to have the chapter finished by the end of the week if not sooner.

We’re still hard at work on the kitchen. We ordered our floor this past weekend. This morning I noticed the flooring company’s number on my phone. I was sure they were calling me to let me know that our flooring was in. So imagine my disappointment when I listened to the message telling that the floor we wanted had been discontinued and that they didn’t have enough left in stock for us. Obviously, we’re back to floor hunting again.

I guess that’s it for now. I will try to blog more often.
