Random News

June 22, 2009 | Uncategorized

Well, I hope everyone had a great father’s day weekend. Mine was nice (dinner at my brother’s with my dad and his wife) even though I was dealing with a stomach thing that I picked up from DS last week. (The reason why I wasn’t around much.) Seems to be gone today, which is good.

Because DS was sick, I had to reschedule my newspaper interview for today. I’m very excited. Keeping my fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I’ve also started Twittering. I’m still trying to figure it out, but if you’d like to follow me, please do.

There’s only four more days in the school year left, and I barely got any work done last week. Which means I have a ton to get done over the next few days. Might as well get to it.

It’s Monday…

June 15, 2009 | Writing

…and I’m beat after another non-stop weekend. And the rest of the week is shaping up to be a busy one.

Today, I’m being interviewed for a newspaper. You may remember that I was interviewed this past winter. Well, there was some kind of mix up and the story never ran, so the same reporter has invited me to come out and get interviewed again, and to also have my picture taken with my book. The last explains why I have woken up this morning with a big pimple on my forehead. (It’s like picture day in high school all over again.)

Blood and Bone is still slow going. The next few chapters are predominately new scenes instead of merely rewriting. My hopes for being done by the end of the month are dwindling fast. Still, there’s two weeks left. Who knows what could happen?

The WIP is going better. I’m actually pretty excited about it. But I’ll get into that more on Wednesday.

Anyway, lots to do today. I better get started.

Mood: Good.

Movie Rant

June 10, 2009 | Movies, family, life

Last night we went to the movies. Now before I go any further, I should explain that going to the movies is one of my least favorite things to do. If I’m going out, I prefer something with more social interaction, and I find theatres crowded and loud. So the only time I do go to the movies is if it’s something I really, really want to see, or if it’s something that DS wants to see. Last night it was the latter. We went and saw Night at the Museum 2. How was it? A lot of the same gags as the first one, but less story. Hank Azaria was quite funny, though.

Anyway, on to my rant. What is wrong with people these days? When did poor manners and inconsideration become the norm? I’m referring most specifically to the woman and her young child sitting behind me who constantly kicked and bumped into the back of my seat. Said child was really probably too young to be at the movie, and that was probably why she was standing up, walking around behind my seat and talking for the duration. Also when the woman would answer her daughter’s questions, she spoke as if she were sitting in her own living room and everyone wanted to hear what she had to say.

Which brings me to my next rant. What is it with people bringing infants to the movies? I can pretty much guarantee that they are not enjoying themselves as is proven by their crying from beginning to end. And why would they, really? Movies are loud. All that noise probably hurts their little infant ears.

If your child is too young to really enjoy the whole big screen experience, wait for movie to come out on DVD or take them to the drive-in, then they can make all the noise they want. Less agravation for everyone.

Counting Down

June 9, 2009 | Writing, family, life

Well, the days are going by quickly and the end of month is only twenty-one days away. This may seem like a lot, but with the end of the school year fast approacing  it really isn’t. Especially when I have sooo much I want to get done before then. Last week, I was not terribly productive. I managed to get a some work done on the WIP, (which I’ll tell you more about tomorrow) but not much else. Kitchen, grumble.

So this week, I am determined to get through at least five chapters for Blood and Bone. I so want to have this pretty much finished by the time DS is finished so that all I’m working on over the summer is WIP. Keep your finger crossed for me. Also, I hope to keep plugging away with 1,000 words a day on the WIP. I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes.

The kitchen is coming along, but as dh and I are doing it ourselves (okay, dh is doing most of it) it’s taking a while. The chaos is starting to get to me a little, and even I’m starting to get sick of take-out for dinner. On the up side, we’re finished painting the walls, and the back splash went up behind the stove. WooHoo!! Next it’s the chair rail, then sanding and painting the trim.

My Dog is Fat and Other News

June 4, 2009 | HellHound, Writing, life

So a few days ago we took HellHound to the vet for his check up and his shots where we were told he was significantly overweight. This came as bit of shock to me. HellHound has always been stocky and solid, but I never really though of him has fat. So we’ve put him on the vet recommended diet food and he gets no more treats. He’s not too pleased with us. The vet also did some blood tests to confirm that the weight gain was not a result of his thyroid (a common problem with his breed) and for general wellness. All the tests came back good. So three hundred dollars later we learned we had a fat, but otherwise healthy dog.

I have not had a terribly productive writing week thus far, but I’m turning that around today. At least that’s the plan. DS has less than a month left of school and I really want to be done Blood and Bone by the time he’s out.

My kitchen is coming along well. We’ve done the bulk of the painting. We’ll be ordering the new counter top and picking out the tiles for the back splash this weekend, as well as painting the cupboards.

Off to start the day.
