Is It Warm In Here, Or Is It Just Me?!

November 25, 2008 | Uncategorized

I think the thermostat thingy on my little electric wood stove is broken.

It’s winter now (I realize not literally, but we have snow so I feel confident making this claim), and every morning when I enter the attic the temperature is a balmy 15 degrees (about 60 Fahrenheit.) So I turn on the heater and the room warms in no time.

This morning while I was writing, my face suddenly felt awfully warm and dry. Believing that I am surely too young for hot flashes, I checked the thermometer, and sure enough the temperature was sitting at 25 (about 85) and the little heater was still happily pumping more hot air into the room. I have since turned off the heater and it’s already cooling down in here. My lips are no longer peeling and I take that as a plus. :-) I hope DH can fix it, otherwise, I foresee a winter of extreme temperature shifts before me.

On a another note, I’m not going to make my word count for NaNo. I might have jinxed myself by believing I could easily catch up after going away. LOL! Also, I received my first round edits for Curse and my galley for Living Lies this month, so there’s just no way. On the upside, the WIP is really moving well and I’m determined to have it finished before Christmas.

Good News!!

November 20, 2008 | The Curse of Culcraig, Writing

I’ve just signed a contract with The Wild Rose Press for The Witch’s Stone. (Though, looks like the title will be changing to The Curse of Culcraig.)

Here’s just a quick blurb to let you know what it’s about:

After a devastating personal tragedy cost history professor, Hillary Bennett, her job and her marriage, the promise of journals detailing the facts surrounding an apparent twentieth century witch-hunt could be exactly what she needs to rebuild her life. But when she arrives at Glendon House in the small Scottish village of Culcraig and finds her hostess, Agnes Douglas, dead at the bottom of the stairs, all of Hillary’s hopes come crashing down around her. Until Agnes’s attractive and infuriating heir offers her a deal she can’t refuse.

The last thing suspense writer, Caid Douglas, needs is a decrepit old manor house to look after, but he does need the money selling the house would bring. He offers to honor his great aunt’s arrangement with Hillary. She’ll pay him to stay at Glendon House and view the journals, and he’ll have the money to fix up the house. An ideal situation–provided he can ignore the heat igniting between them and keep his hands off of her. But Glendon House harbors a sinister secret behind its great, stone walls.

And a killer will stop at nothing to keep it.

I’ll post more details as I get them.

A Writing Writer is a Happy Writer

November 8, 2008 | NaNo, Writing, life

And that’s certainly true of me right now. After having to back burner all things writing related while DS was sick, I feel that I’ve really gotten back into the swing of things. Maybe I needed the break.

The WIP is moving a long nicely, leaving me ahead of the game for NaNo. Granted, only by a couple of hundred words, but I’ll take it. Last year by this time, I was already behind on my word count. Now, I am going away with some friends this weekend and that could put me behind, but (touch wood) I’m fairly confident I can catch up next week. I hope.

I’ve started shopping Witch around again. I’ll keep you posted.  Blood and Bone is creeping along. Between catching up after the past couple of weeks and NaNo, progress has slowed, but not stilled. So over all, it’s been a pretty good week.

That said, this morning there was no cream for coffee, so I decided to walk Tim’s and buy one (a coffee, that is). But now it’s done and I’m wishing I had bought a second. Oh well, nothing’s perfect I suppose.
