It’s Been A While

October 27, 2008 | NaNo, family, life

Hey all, sorry to have been so scarce lately. The last week and a half has been crazy.

DS came down with a throat infection and just as he was getting over that, he had a reaction to the antibiotic he was taking. He wound up with a rash like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The poor little guy was half out of his mind with the itching. Still, we’re lucky the rash was the only reaction he had.

The rash is fading now, and while he’s still a little itchy, he’s definitely getting better. As for me, between fevers and administering Benadryl, I’m on a four hour a night sleep schedule. I’m zonked.

I have managed to squeeze in a little writing time here and there, but much. So with that in mind, I signed up for NaNo this year. Yikes!! I know, I’m a glutton for punishment. On the upside, 50k will be a great kick in the pants for the WIP. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Tagged!

October 11, 2008 | Uncategorized

Well, the extremely talented Judith Ledger has tagged me.  I’m to tell you six things about myself and then tag six more people. (Now, I’ve done ‘Random Things About Me’ blogs before, but hopefully they were so long ago that if there’s some overlapping no one will notice.)

Here we go.

1. I love a good storm. Rain storms, thunder storms, snow storms, I don’t care, as long as I’m cozy in my house with a nice cup of tea.

2. I hate to cook. Loathe it, actually. In fact, whenever we entertain, hubby cooks. (Unless it’s some kind of pasta thing. Even I can manage to boil water.) Oddly, I don’t mind baking.

3.  I have kind of a demented sense of humor. I’m a huge fan of stupid comedy movies like Airplane, Top Secret, The Naked Gun movies. Although, I think Clue is probably my favorite.

4. I’m a terrible speller. I spell check even short emails, and you can usually tell if I’ve forgotten. :-)

5.  I hate commercials. When I watch T.V., I’m usually watching two or three shows at once so I can flip whenever a commercial comes on. Drives DH crazy.

6. I’m addicted to British Real Estate shows. Probably because they usually feature old homes. My favorites are Selling Houses and Location, Location.

I am tagging…

A wonderful writing friend, Katherine Warwick. Katherine writes women’s romance and young adult. Her novel A Season of Eden is being turned into  movie. So exciting.

Bella McFarland, a tallented  writer and good friend. To learn about Bella’s titles click here.

Jerri Drennen, writer of sexy suspense. Check out her Aztec series.

The very witty, Hez.

Now, because I’m not sure which of my writing friends have been tagged already and which ones haven’t, my last two slots are wild cards. If you’re reading this and haven’t been tagged, then consider yourself tagged. :-P

The Cherry On My Lousy Week…

October 4, 2008 | life

…was my cat waking me up at five a.m. while decapitating a mouse next to my bed. (I suppose it could have been worse. She could have been on my bed at the time. Ew! Blech! Shudder.)  So yeah, it seems we have mice again. This is when the suburban girl (me) doesn’t do so well with country living, and the charm of living in an old house dims ever so slightly. I like nature, but I like it outdoors not scurrying inside my walls. That said, I believe I must come to terms with the reality that a house this old and the colder weather will lead to mice. We got rid of them last winter, and we’ll do it again, damn it.

I’ve been helping out a lot with ds’s class recently, which I believe has led to the nasty cold that’s been dogging me for the past week and a half. Actually, by the beginning of this week I was so wiped a gave myself a few sick days. Not that it mattered. I’ve been a touch burned out creatively lately.

Overall, not my most productive week. On the upside, the cold seems to be fading and I don’t have any concrete plans this weekend so hopefully I can get back into the swing of things.

And hopefully I won’t wake to any mouse executions through the night. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
